Vet Tech Appreciation Week, also known as National Veterinary Technician Week, provides an important opportunity to further celebrate the Veterinary Technician profession and all their contributions.

In the Veterinary space, every position, at every level, is crucial to the inner workings of the hospital or clinic. Vet Techs, in particular, have an innumerable amount of roles to fill, from being the point of contact for both the patients and doctors, to assisting with diagnostics, carrying out treatments, monitoring patient progress, and more. Veterinary Technicians must also be versatile, ready to use their skill sets in a variety of situations. Beyond their own responsibilities, Veterinary Technicians also take the time to comfort nervous pets and anxious owners, as well as supporting their veterinary team.

Vet Tech Appreciation Week is especially important because our Vet Techs are not praised enough, as it’s a position where going above and beyond is often just considered part of the job. Today Veterinary Technicians are also going the extra mile by educating themselves further about specialty integrative and alternative therapies, including cannabis therapies

These are just some of the reasons I greatly appreciate all Veterinary Technicians. As a doctor, I always know I can count on my Vet Techs to make sure everything is running smoothly. They are critical to the day-to-day function of any practice, and invaluable members of the team. This is a great week to show how important Veterinary Technicians are to us, but it should not be limited to just this week, we should show our Vet Tech appreciation every week, not just one week out of 52.

Meet our Vet Techs

This week we’d like to introduce our three new Vet Techs that have joined the CBD Dog Health team! We want to show our appreciation for them and their efforts to educate themselves on alternative therapies, including cannabis as medicine, helping us bring that same high standard of care to our CBD Dog Health pets and pet parents.

Jennifer Porter Vet Tech Appreciation Week Headshot with dogs

JENNIFER PORTER – VETERINARY TECHNICIAN

Jeni is the mom of 14-year-old Harley, a Great Dane/Pitbull mix, an 8-year-old Great Dane, Moxie, and 4-year-old Wednesday, who is a 45 pound mutt.  She has always had a passion for the welfare of animals and decided to make that her career starting in 2009.

While attending Veterinary Technician school in St. Louis, MO, Jeni worked for the local Humane Society.  There, she helped with the general, daily care of every animal while adopting out animals to worthy people.  As Jeni’s education furthered, she oversaw caring for new animals that came to the shelter; making them ready for potential adoption. She also went on animal rescues.  One of those rescues was featured on Animal Planet when over 90 dogs were removed from the property.

After passing the Veterinary Technician National Exam, Jeni went on to work for a veterinary diagnostics company.  During her 10 years with the company, she ran the St. Louis laboratory; analyzing specimens for over 100 veterinary hospitals daily. Jeni also helped manage client relationships; making sure clinics succeeded in their endeavors.

After using CBD Oil for Harley’s arthritis, Jeni began researching the different CBD products that were acceptable for animal usage.  She came across CBD Dog Health and incredibly, a Vet Tech position was available!  After exploring the company and products, she decided that CBD Dog Health was the place she belonged!

Krysta has been a veterinary technician for many years now. She has working experience in traditional, holistic, and integrative practices which plays a key part in her knowledge of veterinary medicine and has expanded her knowledge of common (and uncommon) practice within the field.

With her combined veterinary and pet industry knowledge, she can effectively help almost anyone she comes across in some way regarding their pets’ health. When she’s not working or researching animal health and nutrition, Krysta enjoys relaxing with family and friends, dining at new restaurants, and spending time in nature near water.
