In this episode of Your Natural Dog, our guest is Suzie Cyrenne, co-founder of Zumalka, a leading provider of natural products for pet health. “I think that there’s going to be a switch where more and more people are going to see that these pharmaceuticals do not help their pets. Most of them aren’t even made to help their pets. And they’re going to search out for holistic remedies.” – Angela Ardolino

Natural Alternatives for Dogs’ Eyes

“What I love about homeopathy is you can really get down into the itsy bitsy details of a pet issue. For example, let’s say it’s just a cataract that’s beginning, then it will not necessarily be the same remedy as a cataract that has progressed a little bit more.” – Suzie Cyrenne

Unlike conventional pharmaceuticals, homeopathy and natural medicine aims to treat the whole animal, not just the disease. This is why homeopathic remedies promote your pet’s overall health and support their ability to heal themselves.

She discussed treating two dogs with cataracts differently, based on their disease progression. For dogs with incipient cataracts, she suggested Natrum Mur, while for cases that have matured or progressed further, she recommended Causticum. Suzie also suggested Bilberry Extract, high in antioxidants, for vision and dog eye health.

Natural Alternatives for Dogs’ Mouth

Oral care is one of the most overlooked components to a pet’s health. In fact, 4 out of 5 pets will have significant oral disease by the age of 3, without most pet parents even knowing about it. With the right tools, pet parents can naturally support their dogs’ teeth, gums and overall oral health.

Tartar build up leads to gingivitis, inflammation of the gums, which can cause your dog lots of pain and difficulty eating. For tartar in dogs, Suzie recommends Mezereum on an ongoing basis. For painful, inflamed gums in dogs, she recommended Mercurius Solubilis and Carbo Veg to help with bleeding and inflammation of the gums.
