How CBD Helped Miss Daisie
It is no secret that I love animals. In fact, healing animals is my life, and every dog who passes through my door becomes family. When my community of vets has done everything they can for a sick or geriatric dog, they refer the pet parents to me. With the combined wisdom and experience of my holistic and integrative colleagues, and the power of full spectrum CBD, I feel like I have superpowers. With these integrative tools, I’ve seen wonders, dogs regaining their quality of life, mobility, health, and their very lives. CBD helped Miss Daisie, and can help your pet too.
Miss Daisie: Before CBD
When I met a 14-year-old black lab named Daisie on Oct. 1, 2019, I was excited to start helping her live her best life and enjoy her twilight years. I immediately fell in love with her gentle soul the minute she stepped foot on my farm. Her black coat peppered with gray, she had youthful eyes that twinkled despite being in her twilight years.
Miss Daisie’s pet-parent had passed away and the family brought her to my boarding facility while they made final arrangements. When I called a week later to check in with Daisie’s previous owner’s son, he told me that he could not take her, nor could he find anyone who would. The situation was traumatic for Daisie, losing her home and her family in one fell swoop, and we knew she would need extra love and I immediately offered to make my farm rescue, Fire Flake Farm, her forever home.
After a week, we could tell Daisie was terrified and confused. Before coming to us, she was being fed the cheapest kibble on the market which made matters worse. She was suffering from poor health and had a large mast cell tumor the size of a golf ball on her back just above her tail.
She could barely use her back legs and was dragging them behind her – although she wanted to be part of my pack, she could barely keep up. Unable to hear, Daisie relies on her senses of smell and vision, but life without a key sense had made her weary. She rarely looked up or made eye contact but always wanted to be near me.
Working from the inside-out
To help Miss Daisie, I started with our Heal: Full Spectrum Hemp Extract CBD Oil, giving her 12mg of Full Spectrum CBD in the morning, and 50mg in the evening. HEAL is a full spectrum oral tincture, and is our highest CBD content tincture for dogs. Our proprietary formula is designed to work with your dog’s endocannabinoid system and boost their natural ability to fight cancer, tumors, Cushing’s and other chronic ailments.
I also applied REMEDY, one of our Full Spectrum Hemp CBD Salves for Dogs, directly to the tumor on her back twice a day – once in the morning and once in the afternoon or evening. REMEDY is an all-natural, topical hemp salve that works by interacting with receptors in your dog’s skin. Remedy is formulated with eucalyptus, arnica, and peppermint, which work synergistically with our full-spectrum hemp extract to promote healing and healthy cell growth.
At CBD Dog Health, we formulated our Heal tincture and Remedy salve as our heavy hitting CBD Power Duo for serious ailments and skin growths. Combining the powerful therapeutic properties of REMEDY and HEAL in our CBD Power Duo is the ideal way to provide both localized and systemic therapy for tumors, cysts, papillomas and more. For a truly holistic approach, we recommend addressing chronic conditions from all possible angles, which is why we bundled these amazing products together in our CBD Power Duo. Our CBD Power Duo products work together synergistically to boost efficacy and encourage the best possible outcomes.
The CBD helped Miss Daisie greatly, and by giving Daisie both the tincture and salve, her issues were treated from the inside-out. The tinctures, when applied directly to the gums, is absorbed into the bloodstream and works to reduce overall inflammation in her body – treating both the joint pain and tumors. The salve, which is applied directly onto the tumor itself, is able to penetrate all three layers of Daisie’s skin and because there are both CB1 and CB2 receptors in every layer of a dog’s skin it is extremely effective. CB1 and CB2 receptors are part of the endocannabinoid system, which instructs cells on how to heal and repair themselves.
Additionally, I switched Miss Daisie to an all-natural, raw diet, supplementing with goats milk and whole sardines for snacks throughout the day. I also assisted her cleanse with a prebiotic and probiotic. All of these changes worked together to create beneficial changes to Daisie’s health, both internally and externally.
The Science of CBD – is it Safe?
CBD is a safe, effective treatment for all mammals both topically and orally. In a study conducted by Colorado State University, 10 mg/kg/day or 20mg/kg/day was orally administered to dogs for 6 days. CBD was tolerated in the entire study population. Unlike many traditional medications, research has proven that CBD is effectively and quickly absorbed into the bloodstream when administered both orally and topically. A study conducted by the Department of Pharmacy, School of Pharmacy at Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel concluded that: “CBD was observed to have a large volume of distribution [in dogs studied].”
Even more important: in a study conducted by the Department of Veterinary Medical Sciences, University of Bologna, Bologna, Italy, dogs were found to have a substantial amount of receptors in their endocannabinoid system, specifically in the spine and skin, which allows dogs to more effectively use CBD.
This all means that full spectrum hemp extract/CBD is both efficient, effective, and safe for dogs. Studies have shown that CBD can effectively stop and eliminate tumors and cancerous growths and inhibit future growths.
Miss Daisie: After CBD
CBD helped Miss Daisie with her tumors significantly. With regular application of REMEDY full spectrum hemp CBD salve as well as oral administration of the HEAL tincture twice daily, Daisie’s tumor shrank significantly – decreasing in size by a third, within the first month. During that month, the large painful growth popped, oozed, and detached from Daisie’s spinal area. The tumor softened, but still feels that there is a small hard area inside, which appears to be scar tissue. Months later, there is no sign of the tumor.
Because of the changes in diet and the addition of CBD into her regimen, Daisie has begun to move more quickly, and she doesn’t have any new growths forming. Even better: she is more relaxed and not in pain. She has started to swim and can even get up to a full trot. She looks up at me and makes eye contact now – a sight that warms my heart every time. And, even though she is deaf, Daisie loves to jump up and bark with the rest of the pack when the UPS man knocks on the front door now.
Update: Our sweet Miss Daisie passed away in July 2021, just 3 months shy of 17 years old, not from the cancer she beat, but of her old age dementia. Rest in Peace, our beloved Miss Daisie.
