Available Research on How CBD Works
Full spectrum extract (CBD) is known primarily as an anti-anxiety medication for both people and pets for good reason. A study published in Current Neuropharmacology states: “CBD seems to be a promising drug for the treatment of [panic disorders].” A 2013 article published in Neuropharmacology also found that full spectrum extract (CBD) can help in facilitating extinction of aversive memories which treats PTSD and anxiety or panic disorders in people and animals.
Research is also promising that full spectrum extract (CBD) is a viable treatment option for sleep disorders in people and pets. A 2019 study published in the Permanente Journal found that CBD has a calming effect on the central nervous system and can improve the amount and depth of sleep in those suffering sleep disorders and full spectrum extract (CBD) is better tolerated than other psychiatric medications. Dosage Information: Despite common misconceptions, dosing has very little to do with your pet’s size or weight. Dosing for anxiety is all about your specific pet, their type and level of anxiety, and how sensitive their endocannabinoid system is. For fastest and most thorough absorption, lift the lip and apply dose directly onto the gums, as the most direct way into the bloodstream. If added to food, the medicine may not be as effective and can take significantly longer (30-45 min.) to reach the bloodstream as it works its way through the gastrointestinal system.
Based on research and from our experience, we recommend the following dosage:
- Noise, travel, or situational anxiety– Start with a full 1 mL dropper of tincture (4 mg CBD). Wait 15-20 minutes and if your pet is still anxious, administer another 1 mL of tincture (4 mg CBD) until you see results.
- General anxiety – Start with a daily dose of at least 1 mL of tincture (4 mg CBD). If you don’t notice a difference within one to two weeks, increase the dosage to 15-25 mg daily.
Split the amount of mg into small portions throughout the day (micro-dosing) for best absorption and to keep it in the bloodstream. The medicine peaks at 2 hours and is gone from 4-6 hours.
Unlike many traditional oral medications, research has proven that CBD is effectively and quickly absorbed into the bloodstream. A study conducted by the Department of Pharmacy, School of Pharmacy at Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel concluded that: “CBD was observed to have a large volume of distribution.”
Your pet cannot overdose from CBD. If the dose is too high, they may become sleepy or experience diarrhea.
Each 1 mL dropper contains 28 mg of hemp seed oil, and 4 mg full spectrum hemp CBD oil. Each 1 oz bottle contains approximately 30 1 mL servings and 120 mg full spectrum extract (CBD). Dropper included. Shake well before use. Always clean the dropper after use to prevent contamination.
