Available Research on How CBD Works
Research has consistently shown that CBD can help humans who suffer from osteoarthritis, but it is also a promising treatment for animals suffering the same ailments. Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine recently conducted pharmacokinetics study on cannabinoids for dogs, which found that full spectrum extract (CBD) gives dogs a significant decrease in pain and increase in activity, with no side effects. Another study found that 2 mg/kg of CBD twice daily can help increase comfort and activity in animals with Osteoarthritis. To read more research, click here.

Dosage Information: Despite common misconceptions, dosing has very little to do with your pet’s size or weight. Finding the right dosage depends on your specific pet, their specific ailment, and how sensitive their endocannabinoid system is. For fastest and most thorough absorption, lift the lip and apply dose directly onto the gums, as the most direct way into the bloodstream. If added to food, the medicine may not be as effective and can take significantly longer (30-45 min.) to reach the bloodstream as it works its way through the gastrointestinal system.
Based on research and from our experience, we recommend the following dosage:
- Arthritis-Start with 9-12 mg daily. If you don’t notice a difference within one to two weeks, increase by another 9-12 mg until you see results. You’ll know you found the correct dose when you see your cat run faster, jump higher, and become kitten-like again.
- Allergies-Start with 9-12 mg daily. If you don’t notice a difference in one to two weeks, increase by another 9-12 mg. Note: most often, allergies are caused by diet, and the diet should be altered to fully resolve the issue.
- Aches and Pains– Start with 9-18 mg situationally or daily. If your dog is still in pain after 10-15 minutes, administer another 9-18 mg.
Split the amount of mg into small portions throughout the day (micro-dosing) for best absorption and to keep it in the bloodstream. The medicine peaks at 2 hours and is gone from 4-6 hours.
Unlike many traditional oral medications, research has proven that CBD is effectively and quickly absorbed into the bloodstream. A study conducted by the Department of Pharmacy, School of Pharmacy at Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel concluded that: “CBD was observed to have a large volume of distribution.”
Your pet cannot overdose from CBD. If the dose is too high, they may become sleepy or experience diarrhea.
